  • Students are currently writing and preparing speeches that will be presented in class during the first week of February. Students were also given the choice of creating a Powerpoint presentation for the class instead of a formal speech.

If parents could work with students at home to help practice and refine their speeches, this would be helpful. Students tend to get nervous and when they are more familiar with the material, the nerves tend to subside a bit.

There are a wide variety of interesting topics being covered, and I am looking forward to being informed and entertained by the students!

  • Students have been busy reading novels and completing literature circle activities and discussions. We've had some great group discussions. Overall, students have really enjoyed their novels.

Some novels that have been very well received (and could make good Christmas gifts) are:

    The Breadwinner - Deborah Ellis

    Run - Eric Walters

Drums, Girls and Dangerous Pie - Jordan Sonnenblick

    The Outsiders - S.E. Hinton

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas - John Boyne

    Maus - Art Spiegelman

  • Both grade 7 and 8 students are currently working on a CASI reading assessment. All work will be completed in class. This assessment is a great resource for measuring students' level of reading comprehension.
